Life Skills

People often consider life skills, such as time management, multi-tasking, or goal setting to be innate abilities.  Yet, none of us entered this world with a watch, notebook, and a calendar at hand.   Just like any other skill, life skills must be learned and practiced until they become second nature.

If you have not been using a calendar, reminders and alarms, or using goal setting techniques to design your life, learning these skills along with behavior modification skills to keep you focused can help you enjoy, rather than feel overwhelmed by your goals and plans. 

Learning these skills is particularly important to college students, business owners, and people in any self-motivated task, such as the arts and freelancing.  In fact, one of the main factors that separate straight A students from the rest, is their ability to make long-term plans for studying and then using their time management skills and prioritizing to get the work done. Dr. Ester has taken students from college drop outs to straight A students in as little as one semester of one-on-one work in study and life skills.

Lack of life skills is also often at the bottom of problem behaviors, such as hoarding, cluttered living or work spaces, chronic tardiness and forgetfullness, and the very common feeling of "clowdy brain".  If you find it difficult to stay on task or to accomplish your goals, you may not be "lazy", you could just be missing some necessary skills.
